I hadn’t seen Mulatu in a few years; we met in 2004, in Addis Ababa; we toured off and on for the next 6 years or so with Russ Gershon and the Either/Orchestra, including the fateful performance at Joe’s Pub in NYC, where Mulatu met Jim Jarmusch (director of “Broken Flowers,” the film that returned Mulatu to stardom), and then I saw him again in Addis Ababa in 2010, but I think that was the last time.  His manager called Russ about a small-tet version of the Either/Orchestra, and we were off to Montreal for rehearsals and this performance.  Hey Mulatu!  It’s time to play together again!
